Canal tour

Often described as the Venice of the North, Amsterdam is famous for it’s canals. This Segway tour will show you the most beautiful canals Amsterdam has to offer! An UNESCO world heritage site, the canal district consists of 4 main canals. The Singel, Herengracht, Keizersgracht and the Prinsengracht with a lot of smaller canals connecting these main ones. Built in the 17th century, the Dutch “Golden Age” the canal district is famous as an example of urban planning and architecture and is well known for it’s small bridges and the 17th century canal houses.

In the early 17th century Amsterdam saw an influx of immigrants and needed to expand the city. A comprehensive plan was formed to create 4 half circles of canals circling out from the IJ river bay area. Between the 4 main canals a lot of smaller canals were dug which served as a means for transporting goods throughout the city.

After a brief Segway training we will start the tour. Gliding along the IJ river bank past Amsterdam Central Station we soon make our way to the start of the canal district at the Singel canal.  From here we will criss cross through this beautiful area while seeing al the major canals (Prinsengracht, Herengracht and Keizersgracht) and a lot of the quaint smaller canals in between.
